In 2000, he participates in the following group exhibitions: Brasil + 500 Mostra do Redescobrimento [Brazil + 500 Rediscovery Show] at the Biennial Foundation (SP); Século 20: Arte do Brasil [20th Century Art of Brazil] at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon) and the Centro de Arte Moderna José de Azeredo Perdigão (Lisbon); and Situações: Arte Brasileira Anos 70 [Situations: Brazilian Art of the Seventies] at the Casa França-Brasil Foundation (RJ).

The following year, he holds solo shows at the Nara Roesler Gallery (SP) and the Silvia Cintra Art Gallery (RJ).

In December, a special room is dedicated to his work in curator Ligia Canongia’s ArteFoto [Artphoto] show at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (RJ), in which his Cacique de Ramos: Iguais Diferentes [Cacique de Ramos: Different Equals] is accorded special distinction.

In May, 2003, Paulo Sergio Duarte curates the first retrospective of Carlos Vergara’s work at Santander Cultural, in Porto Alegre.
